Emily is not necessarily someone with whom I, personally, might share an immediate bond. She is a staunch member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and refers to her hired help as “maids” as she forces them to wear ridiculous Clue-like uniforms. She also belittles or fires them for minor infractions like not cutting enough celery for Bloody Marys, walking too loudly, or not understanding the difference between the door bell’s chimes and the ding of the oven timer. Rory’s last year at Chilton is a tumultuous one, both personally and academically. She’s applying for college, but wonders whether Harvard–her dream school–is really where she wants to go. The weird thing about Gilmore is… you’ve lived a life with these people and there is a language to them. And the minute that somebody steps out of that it just feels weird. We’ve a couple of lines where we’ve thrown in and it’s sort of… just feels weird.
However, she goes to him when she needs help on an article about a secret society that Logan is in, called the Life and Death Brigade. She is fascinated by the club and is convinced by Logan to take a dangerous jump off a tall structure, causing Rory to reconsider her initial impression of him. Logan eventually winds up comforting Rory at a party after her break-up with Dean. Rory soon develops a crush on Logan, and while Logan has feelings for her too, he makes it clear he is not a commitment guy, so they agree to a no strings attached relationship.

That created another triangle, somewhere between a 4 and a 7 – Rory and Dean hooking up with Lindsay, the forgotten wife, as the „spare”. At the Bracebridge dinner, Jess grumbles to Luke that they should have eaten before they came.
In Stars Hollow, she meets Mia, the owner of the Independence Inn. She begs Mia to hire her though she has no experience of any kind. Mia gave Lorelai a job as a maid and allows Lorelai and Rory to live in a converted potting shed behind the inn, where they live for most of Rory’s early childhood. Lorelai eventually becomes the executive manager of the inn, which is the position she holds when the first season of the show opens. Christopher shows up at Emily and Richard’s vow renewal, professing his love for Lorelai, which overwhelms Luke, resulting in separation between him and Lorelai, as well as a major argument between Lorelai and Emily. Rory gets an internship at Logan’s father’s newspaper but is deflated when he tells her she „doesn’t have it.” Rory lashes out afterwards and suggests to Logan, at his sister’s engagement party, that they steal a yacht.

She had a lot to process between her stilted relationship with Luke, not having more kids and her tenuous bond with her mom.

Ironically, Henry would probably be the perfect boyfriend for Lane in her mother’s eyes, but Lane decides to hide the relationship since she thinks her parents would either never approve or approve of him so much that Lane wouldn’t like him anymore. Eventually, Henry breaks up with her when he gets sick of all the effort and not being able to go out on a real date with her. References are made several times to Lane’s father—or parents, plural—through the first season, in the context of him clearly being alive and present in Lane’s life. He is never seen for some reason, and eventually ceases to be mentioned. Kirk seems to be on the same path, but is actually somewhat likable. Rory tells Lorelai she should just let him win the dance contest because he has nothing going for him – he has no real career, no friends or girlfriend, no pets, and still lives with his mother .
