I read the original novel many times when I was a teenager, decades ago. It’s a great story with lots of great pictures, highly recommended, if a bit dated – published in 1949, seventy-five years ago, although I’ve often wondered over the years if it would ever be made into a movie, I didn’t expect such a limited…
Also very concerned, as it remains one of my favorite reads
„Men come and go, but the land remains” is a quote I often use. I watched the first episode with a bit of trepidation and ended it with, „Wow! That was really good!” Seeing Ish staring at the smoke from Em’s house brought the imagery of the book to life.

Sure, it’s been modernized in many ways, but the important plot aspects have remained virtually unchanged. Other changes, like limiting Ish’s trip to Las Vegas rather than Atlantic City, make sense and aren’t critical to the character interactions. Also, the way the book is structured makes the limited series a great production choice.
