Is she a siren or a myth?
Plot
Partenope is a woman who calls her city home. In Greek mythology, Partenope is a siren who committed suicide after failing to charm Odysseus. Her body was washed ashore where Castel dell’Ovo now stands, giving the city that would later become Naples its name. In the film, Partenope is the embodiment of the city of Naples.
The beauty of life in its insignificance
Heat Written by Peter Gregson Starring Peter Gregson, Warren Zielinski, Magdalena Filipczak, Laurie Anderson, Ashok Klouda. A bit of a disappointment with his last film, È STATA LA MANO DI DIO, PARTENOPE reminded me of what touched me so much in Sorrentino’s films. Everything is beautiful, from the city of Naples and its pristine waters to the still unknown goddess Celeste da Porta. Add in Fellini-like scores and a wonderful jazz soundtrack by Lele Marchitelli: the result is perfection.
Oh, and I almost forgot: the film stars Gary Oldman
One might think he’s making another GRANDE BELLEZZA, but that’s not the case. Sorrentino surprises us again with a new way of exploring – ultimately – the same theme. The film asks questions without ever answering them, as if to say that we just need to stop looking for answers and start looking at the beauty of the world as it is. As a result, the viewer leaves the cinema not with answers, but with an interesting look at life and ultimately death…
I sincerely hope/think he will win the Palme d’Or
Although he only spends a limited amount of time on screen, he gives a wonderful performance. Then he steps back, as if to encourage you to enjoy the film that he convinced you to watch (by his presence in the ensemble). So I know it won’t appeal to everyone – I have to admit that some scenes are quite strange – but in my opinion, this film gave me everything I expected (and didn’t expect) when I went into the film. cinema. Thanks Paolo 😉
